Saturday Orchard

Although both of us are living in Singapore, but frankly speaking, we rarely go to Orchard.  If you have not heard of Orchard, you should go for it.  It is a touristic place and paradise for shoppers.  Malls from side to side and they are everywhere that can be seen along the road.  A place for shopping. Initially the Singapore government intended to upgrade (renovate) the Orchard area and this include shopping malls, shops, road… and the amenities.

We went to Orchard today was because to have a hair cut which is located at the Orchard Road, Centrepoint Shopping Centre,..name of the hairstudio- HAIRINN.  90% of the hairstylists are Malaysians.  Interesting eh?  OK.. my stylist is Gloria.  She has got the furious look, maybe because of her makeover with heavy make up.  But surprisingly, she is a softspoken and has got very gentle gestures. OK… i think i am carrying away, talking about the haircut!

There wasn’t any plan of where to go after the haircut.  Here we decided to look at some books at the Borders at Wheelock Place (cone shape building), the second largest store in Orchard after Kinokuniya at Takashimaya Mall.

On second thought,  I decided to get a bite of my favourite icecream first… for just S$1.00 from the uncle & aunty selling Magnolia icecream in bicycle just outside the Wheelock Place. Yum yum….The icecream was cut in the shape of cubold hold with two slice of biscuits… yea.. chocolate!!!

Since we have no whereabout to go, we decided to walk further to explore the Orchard more.  We walked all the way to the other end of  the Orchard.   On the way, we encountered some interesting ‘scenes’, LAMBORGHINISSSSSS… There were 7 to 10 Lamborghiniss at the Hilton Hotel… Wonder why?  Too many luxurious cars parked at the entrance of the Hilton Hotel would actually mistaken the passersby that the Hotel is also doing some other side business like selling cars!

Along the way, we found HARD ROCK!  Interestingly, the Hard Rock Cafe is not prudently seen.  It is in a small lane of Orchard Road.  When entered, the people were mostly foreigners.  Gwailos! Or so called ANG MOHs.  Well, we went in and bought nothing.  Just kay-poh and taken some photos where a sales girl saw me take photo jokingly demanded me to pay S$5.  They have shirts in sorta designs with word Hard Rock Singapore,…for T-shirts, the price range from S$30-50.

We walked the end of the Orchard Road and the road continues with Tanglin Road.  There are many malls with the name “Tanglin”.  Tanglin Shopping Centre, Tanglin Place and Tanglin Mall.  On the way to the Tanglin Mall, we came across English exterior buildings, called Tudor Course Shopping Gallery.  Pretty cool that these building can be found after the Orchard Road.  However, there aren’t any interesting to see there.  The shops looks pretty ‘expensive’… means stuff they sell are reasonable.

Our final destination along the Orchard Road and Tanglin Road, was Tanglin Mall.  The day was getting late at around 5:30pm and we bumped to a flea market at outside of the mall.  Stuff they sell are cheap. S$2.00 for a shirt… some are new and some are used.   90% sellers and buyers are Filipinos.

Since thats the end of the destination, and the day was late, we ended had our dinner in a restaurant at Tanglin Mall.  We did make research of restaurants available in the Tanglin Mall.  We made a choice to have go for Don Noodle Bistro.  The unique of this restaurant is it serves variety of dishes!  When I say variety, i really mean VARIETY!  Thai, Indo, Korean, Local, and Japanese!  My very first time entered in a restaurant that serves all sorta food…… it even took us some time to select what we want to eat.

I ordered Korean dish – Kimchi Ramen (extra hot i requested) cost S$10.50 and Agnes ordered Ten Zaru (cold japanese green noodle) cost S$10.50.  Guess which taste better?  Mine…. Yum yum YUMMY!!!  Unbelievable delicious! Kimchi supposed to be vegie only, but the dish also include chicken meat.  If you like hot and spicy…that could make you sweat… and tears came down when you eat and wetty nose!… Go for this Kimchi Ramen… unbelievable!  I rate my dish fullstars of 5 – ching! ching! ching! ching! ching! *****

Whereas the other one… Agnes rated it only 3 stars….if for me, i gave two stars only.  Because i don’t like cold stuff as for my main dish.  Not a recommended dish.  Well… overall i would recommend you to try this restaurant even though i had a great meal there.  There are too many choices and the food aren’t expensive. If you have a chance to go to Tanglin Mall, do visit Don Noodle Bistro.  It serves you great!
